Update: We will leave the offers open through the weekend, but I will be drawing the winner of the Reserve magnum at noon (PT) today (Saturday, 2/1), so you’ve got 2 more hours to jump on if you haven’t yet!***

Greetings from Prospice Wines in Walla Walla, WA! We are thrilled to be one of the Newbies for Berserker Day 16!

We are a team of three people at Prospice – owners / founders / winemakers Jay Krutulis & Matt Reilly started Prospice in 2017, and cellar master / tasting room host extraordinaire / all-around badass Gene Hoffman joined the team in early 2024. Jay (ex-lawyer) and Matt (ex-architect) didn’t know each other in their past lives, but each independently made his way to Walla Walla to enroll in winemaking school and set out on a new venture. Since launching Prospice, we’ve been fortunate to receive a lot of praise, but one of our favorite things we’ve been called is “the Simon & Garfunkel of Walla Walla wine.”

Our winemaking approach at Prospice is to partner with top-flight growers, take the delicious fruit that they provide, and shepherd the process of converting those grapes into balanced, expressive, thoughtful wines. We aren't dogmatic about a lot of things aside from ensuring the grapes are the star of the show and the hero in the glass, and we don't believe you can get there by overly manipulating things. Start with the right fruit, take meticulous care of everything throughout the process, and delicious wine should be the reward.

Sean Sullivan (then at Wine Enthusiast) called Prospice “one of the most exciting entrants on the Washington wine stage in the last decade.” We’ve been fortunate to be included on numbers of Top 100 / wines of the year / best of the vintage lists for various wines. We can wave accolades and reviews and scores at you, but ultimately there’s no substitute for trying the wines yourself, and we hope our offers here present the perfect opportunity for you to learn about the range of winemaking we do at Prospice.

Without further ado, on to the good stuff!

Offers #1, #2, and #3 – 94+ Point Reds

When we founded Prospice, Matt was primarily a Rhône addict, and Jay a Bordeaux enthusiast. As such, we were keenly interested in representing both spheres well. These bundles give you the chance to see either (or both) of these aspects of our red winemaking world through some of our very best exemplars.

Offer #1 – Ravishing Rhônes 3-pack

Our Rhône variety production uses no new oak, only neutral (or occasional second-fill) French oak, and we age predominantly in 500-liter puncheons. We use whole-cluster fermentation to help develop structure and texture, making “game-day” decisions when fruit is harvested to determine the whole cluster proportions. This offer includes one bottle each of the following (for detailed tasting notes and review text on each wine, please see the listings on our website):

  • 2021 Les Collines Vineyard Syrah (Walla Walla Valley) - 95% Syrah, 5% Viognier (co-fermented). 30% whole-cluster fermentation. 14% ABV. 130 Cases produced.
    96 pts (IWR); 95 pts & Top 100 Wines of 2023 (OB); 94 pts (Decanter); 93 pts & Critic’s Choice (NWR)
This wine has grip and weight characteristic of the vineyard site, balanced against fresh acidity and the interplay of fruit and minerality. With time this wine reveals lush complexity, with notes of jammy raspberry, tarragon, and Herbes de Provence.

  • 2021 Resurgent Vineyard Syrah (Walla Walla Valley) - 100% Syrah. 30% whole-cluster fermentation. 13.8% ABV. 125 cases produced.
96 pts (IWR); 95 pts (OB); 94 pts (Decanter); 90 pts (NWR)
This wine bursts with character. Aromas are rich and seductive: black plum, raisin, clove, licorice. it’s a story of earthy complexity more than fruit, and it will keep you coming back to the glass for smell after smell.

  • 2022 Alder Ridge Vineyard Mourvèdre (Horse Heaven Hills) – 95% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah. 50% whole-cluster fermentation. 14.2% ABV. 122 Cases produced.
94 pts, Cellar Stocker, Top 60 Northwest Wines of 2024 (NWR); 94 pts (IWR)
Aromas of cherry candy, leather, and cracked black pepper. Sleek and supple on the palate, balancing lightness with structure, building in volume with each sip. The lively finish is persistent, offering elegance, complexity, and freshness.

Offer #2 – Bordeaux Beauties 3-pack

Bordeaux varieties demand at least a little bit of new French oak, but we have spent tremendous time and energy over our existence to learn and make very deliberate decisions in pairing the right oak with the right fruit. We taste and evaluate every single new French oak barrel individually, and make blending decisions on a barrel-by-barrel decision based on that tasting. Our goal is that nobody tastes one of these wines and says, “wow, great barrel!” This offer includes one bottle each of the following (for detailed tasting notes and review text on each wine, please see the listings on our website):

  • 2021 Phinny Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Horse Heaven Hills) – 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 53% new French oak. 14.4% ABV. 116 Cases produced.
94 pts, “Columbia Valley 2021, 30 of the top wines tasted” (Decanter); 94 pts (OB); 94 pts (IWR); 92 pts, Critic’s Choice (NWR)
Bursts from the glass with a harmonious mix of cassis, blackberry, and tart cherry, seamlessly integrating barrel notes of baking spice and a touch of herbaceousness — evoking the image of a pie cooling on a summer windowsill.

  • 2021 Phinny Hill Vineyard Cabernet Franc (Horse Heaven Hills) – 99% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. 41% new French oak. 14.4% ABV. 129 Cases produced.
94 pts (Decanter); 94 pts (OB); 92 pts (IWR); 91 pts (NWR)
Aromatically rich and inviting, brimming with dark, rich fruits — plum, black raspberry, black cherry, complemented by notes of fresh bay leaf and hibiscus flower.

  • 2021 BDX – 64% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. 39% new French oak. 14.2% ABV. 170 Cases produced.
95 pts (Decanter); 93 pts, Critic’s Choice (NWR); 93 pts (OB); 92 pts (IWR)
Our most Right Bank-styled BDX yet — taut, sleek, and elegant. Buckets of bright red cherry aromatics complemented by hints of clove and herbal nuances. The palate is polished and energetic, mouthwatering tart cherry and dried cranberry, with wonderfully delicate barrel notes.

Offers #4 and #5 – Pink & White Delights

One thing you learn pretty quickly if you embark on a winemaking career is that making GOOD white wine requires an incredible amount of meticulousness and attention to detail. It’s arguably harder than making good red wines, and there’s way less margin for error. Sean Sullivan (Wine Enthusiast / Northwest Wine Report) remarked that “Prospice has been notable since the winery’s inception for having white wines that are equally as impressive as its reds,” and that “Prospice consistently makes some of the very best rosé in Washington.” We’re really proud of our white/rosé wines, and we hope you’ll find them worthy of the praise they’ve received.

Offer #4 – 2023 Lonesome Spring Ranch Rosé 6-Pack

If you have any concerns about this being a 2023 vintage Rosé, all I can say is: Don’t. Frankly, I think many well-made dry rosés drink significantly better after more time in bottle than we tend to give them. This wine is beautiful and will remain that way for several more years. I recently opened a bottle of our 2019 rosé from my personal cellar, and it was absolutely delicious.

The fruit for this wine is purpose-grown for rosé production (not saignéed juice) at Lonesome Spring Ranch Vineyard in the Yakima Valley AVA. It’s 57% Grenache, 27% Cinsault, and 16% Counoise, all harvested on the same day and pressed together, whole-cluster. We barrel down to 75-gallon stainless steel barrels in a 55° cold room for a slow, gentle primary fermentation to dryness. We stir twice daily during fermentation, then age on lees for 5 months until bottling. We also stir the lees occasionally during aging to build a little palate weight, but ultimately want this wine to be sleek and racy. 13.0% ABV. 211 cases produced
92 pts (OB), 92 pts (Decanter)

Offer #5 – 2023 Gamache Vineyard Viognier 6-Pack

This fruit from a north-facing slope Gamache Vineyard in the White Bluffs AVA is perfect for the style of Viognier we’re seeking – bright and fresh, with less of the viscosity and weight that seems to define much of the Viognier world. This is whole-cluster pressed to neutral French oak barrels and fermented in a 55° cold room for the same gradual fermentation to dryness as the rosé. As with the rosé, we stir twice daily during fermentation and occasionally during aging, resulting in a wine with a little more creaminess and mouthfeel than the rosé, but still refreshing and lively. 13.5% ABV. 175 cases produced.
93 pts (OB), 91 pts (Decanter)

:tada: :tada: :tada:Incentive Time!!

While you’re on our website, feel free to browse around – add any other bottle(s) that catch your eye to your order and we’ll manually take 15% off those bottles before processing your purchase (You don’t want to know what it would take from a technical perspective for us to get this discount to work automatically, so we’re just gonna do it this way!) If you think of it, drop me a message on here to let me know you added something extra so it doesn’t get missed, but I’ll try to check every order.

Finally, everyone who (a) places an order for more than $200 (before tax & shipping) and (b) comments here on the offer post will be entered in a drawing for a 1.5L magnum bottle of our 2019 Quintessence Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Red Mountain) (96 pts (IWR), 95 pts (OB)). Magnum will be shipped to the winner with their purchased wines at no additional shipping charge.

Procedurals:

  • Shipping is $20 flat rate regardless of order size. We small producers would all love to ship for free, but shipping wine is simply expensive and has gotten worse. Thanks for understanding the need to share the pain just a little bit.
  • We CANNOT currently ship to: AK, AL, CT, DE, MS, NH, NJ, WV, RI, SD, UT
  • We can ship to HI only with additional shipping fees; reach out for specifics
  • We can ship FedEx or UPS – make your choice at checkout.
  • All orders will ship as soon as weather permits safe shipping of wine (sooner for west coasters than for wines that have to traverse the Rockies); you can request specific shipping dates at checkout.

Feel free to read about our history and the meaning behind the brand and logo, or take a glimpse at some of the vineyards from which we source fruit. Or drop a question in the thread below and we’ll be here to answer it!

Hi. I went to your website and it stated you don’t ship to GA. Is that correct? Thanks.

Hey @BrianW!

GA is not a problem for us – I ship wine to several club members there. The list in the offer text here is the most-current list of our ineligible states, so anything not in that list should be fine.

Thanks for letting me know there’s something amiss on the website though. I was not aware of that.
EDIT: I’m not sure where on the website you’re seeing that we don’t ship to GA? Can you DM me a link or screenshot of that messaging?

Can confirm that shipping to GA is no issue - we live in the state and have been buying from Prospice for several years now. Amazing wine, and if you’re in Walla Walla be sure to go by for a tasting! A great experience and the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.

I went via berserker site and purchasing to see price.

Brian

Switch “Georgia” to “United States” and it will be fine. Not a huge fan of the inability in our system to exclude the country requirement from our addresses. :frowning:

We were the “BD newbie tasters” for Prospice Wines and we truly enjoyed this all but this SYRAH IS INSANELY
GREAT!!!

Charles & Sarah Hetzel

2022 Prospice Knox Vineyard Syrah
Walla Walla, Washington 14.2% alcohol
Color: beautiful deep dark burgundy/purple
Nose: deep ruby, dark blackberry fruit, Jamy. Sarah says “WOW! Cloves, spice, hints of cinnamon, spearmint”
Body: rich, full, viscous & meaty, fruit driven, “All Syrah, Baby!”
Taste/Finish: dark blackberry, purple Jolly rancher, hedonistic big Syrah finish that we love. Sarah shared notes of black pepper, black currant, mint and vanilla.
Overall consensus: 96.5 WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS WINE! Of all the wines we tasted – we finished most of the bottle and we tasted 11 wines over 2 hours. We think Berserkers will go CRAZY over this Syrah from Walla Walla.
C: 95 points. Love it and I drink A LOT of Syrah all year-round. Buy Buy Buy!
S: 98 points. Even better day 2! Love it!

I’m in for the Rhone & Bordeaux 3 packs. Looking forward to trying these. Thanks!

Thanks Charles — To BD shoppers, this specific wine is not in today’s bundles (but it is available at a 15% discount along with any other bottle on our site). Stylistically, the 2021 Resurgent Vyd Syrah has a lot of commonality with this 2022 Knox Road Syrah, we just changed some vineyard sourcing around year to year.

@JayKrutulis I went for the rhone pack plus some extra bottles (another Mourvèdre, a Viognier and a rose) to get to six and over the $200 raffle entry! Can’t wait to try these!

Thanks @tpetty! The 6-pack would get you the same six wines with a slightly better discount (I probably should have messaged this better), but I’ll manually tweak this on the back end before pushing the order through!

In for Best of Both Worlds

In for the 6 pack red sampler. Looking forward to meeting you and seeing the Simon and Garfunkel photo (and people) in person. Cheers!

Thanks @tguerra — I’ll manually discount those extra bottles as promised!

That’s great Chris! I look forward to hosting you on Sunday.

Thanks. I likely didn’t read it super carefully - but there is also an error in that #3 bundle (says it combines #3 and #4, rather than #1 and #2) that likely contributed. :grinning:

Fixed, thank you @tpetty !!! I originally had the whites up front but decided there was likely more interest in reds out of Washington overall. You read something dozens of times and think you’ve caught everything…

Appreciate the heads up!
