I always wanted to start and “Official” thread so this seemed as good enough time as any. June 9, 2023. X2O restaurant in Yonkers. Mark Franks (he of Peter Lugeresque dinner fame) put up a good fight and some might argue came close to dethroning us as the only table to have ever won the best wine prize, he gets three demerits for allowing Posner to sit at his table and two demerits for having 10 people while we had only eight. Let’s just say that the 2004 Margaux and the 2005 Pavie were middle of the pack at our table. 2005 Scarecrow, the MacDonald and the Schrader were not too shabby. Then there was the 2009 WS Wine of the Year. There was not a dud in the bunch and when the 2000 Aldo Conterno Gran Bussia was not very memorable in light of the rest of the stuff, I’ll throw down this collection as a challenge to the rest of you for the 2024 renewal.
PS - Despite a reputation to the contrary, the 2011 Jadot Grand Cru WAS NOT premoxed at all and was wonderfully bright with white fruit and acidity.
