Offsite storage cost experiences

It seems folks from the board are wondering. What’s normal these days. Would love to hear from all regions of the country to get a baseline everywhere.

Unfortunately I do not have the option of ANY here in Cleveland but always find the experiences fascinating.

Are there any in Buffalo or close? I’ve often thought of shipping NYC wine there and driving to pick it up.

Thanks!

I’m only aware of one option in Kansas City, and it’s an 8 or 12 case locker for $35 or $45 (~31¢/bottle/month for the 12 case locker).

ATL has a couple of options. One is really expensive. The other is less expensive and less per bottle the larger your space. E.g. a 5x5 locker is like $110/sqft/yr where a 10x12 locker is $60/sqft/yr.

Down here in Fort Lauderdale I’m paying $20.16 per 12 bottle case per year. So, $1.68 per month per case.

The cheap option in Seattle is around $30 per month for 12 cases, works out to about $2 per year per bottle.

San Diego Wine Storage runs around $60-80 a month per locker (12 cases).

I store with Vino Vault in LA at the old Wine Hotel location. VV bought the Wine Hotel and my friend, wine consultant extraordinaire, Jeff Smith’s Carte du Vin storage business. I pay $3/bottle annually for palletized storage, plus minor in and out/delivery charges. They have lockers, too, but I’ve learned over the decades that I’m incompetent at cellar management, so I go with full service, including keeping their wretched Wine Owners database and my CellarTracker database updated. The bad news is that storage space at VV for pallets is almost limitless…

I haven’t done the calc recently, but I think around $1.5/bottle/year is about the best you will do.

I think mine is about $2/bottle/year, but I get my annual money’s worth after just 1 or 2 visits to the active tasting room more.

I pay $4 per case per month in CO (8 case locker) // $4 per bottle per year
I pay $2.6 per case per month in NYC (10 cases) // $2.6 per bottle per year
I pay $1.4 per case per month in London UK // $1.4 per bottle per year.

Most places in Los Angeles area are $2 - $3 per bottle per year; I pay less than $1 per bottle per year, but opening times are somewhat limited, and there is a per box fee if they receive shipments on my behalf. Also, it is purely a wine storage facility — there is no hang-out spot for members to use.

Where’s this at?

That’s what mine is. Not many other options in Orlando, Florida

Wine watch in FTL. They may have actually raised their prices, but it isn’t by much if they did. Not much to choose from down here other than The Reserve

Corkscrews in Denver starts at 4 cases for $20/mo, 48 cases for $150. Racking and walk ins available.

domaine uses this as well and while my collection is much smaller, everything about this program is horrific and makes me never want to use it (perhaps that’s the goal?). i thought it would get better, but somehow it gets worse.

Same here. Double-edged sword; however, as it probably enabled me to buy more than I should have .

I paid $1800 a year for my 30 case locker at Vine Vault, having moved to the burbs and anticipating a a price increase I said no mas and didn’t renew this year.

Yeah that’s outrageous. $5/bottle/year. At Buckhead a 40 case locker is about 1/3 that price. But VV does offer a more full service product. In the UK it’s closer to $1/bottle/year for full service bonded storage.

That was my thing, I wanted 24 hour access to my wine, I was in a condo with no room so it was a necessity, it no longer is.
