Parachute- Chicago

Top Chef alum Beverly Kim has opened a small place in the Avondale neighborhood. Diane and I went to the Bowie Is exhibit and then Parachute for dinner. Small place- with a large communal table in the middle- I would guess around 40 seats. And it was noisy(which I don’t mind) Easy street parking on Elston.

Food- very interesting Korean/American hybrid. We had the Potato Bing Bread, Sesame Leaves and Beets for apps- all really good. That bread and the sesame leaves are addicting. Moved on the the Boudin Noir, which came with a “seedy salad” had to ask what the mini popcorn in it was- popped sorghum. Followed with the Mungbean-pork belly pancake, cauliflower mandu, bi bim bop with tripe to finish. All were excellent. I have to admit having to ask what some of the ingredients were as I was not familiar. Service was very good- helpful.

Interesting wine list- just a few selections, $35,$45 and $55. They have another list with some more $$ options. We had a 2013 Tami Frappato from Sicily($35)- went well with most of the dishes. Tab was about $120 for us- included a cocktail each and the bottle of wine.

Fun place- worth seeking out.
