2018: a vintage to rival and perhaps surpass 2016
Often in the wine industry we convince ourselves that we can see the future. We dismiss quickly a vintage or we quickly deem it the next greatest. Mother nature usually has the last laugh. 2018 is that vintage. We loved the fruit coming in, but in all of the excitement of releasing the 2016 wines perhaps I missed the clues that this vintage was going to keep building and building. As we were bottling I was astonished at the weight, aromatics and perceived sweetness these wines had developed over their 19 months in barrel. If I had to say it at this moment, the polish of the '18s has put it even a touch ahead of the stellar '16s. We are honored to share the wines with you, and can’t wait to hear your take. Included in this release:
2018 Oakville Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville
2018 Oakville Ranch Vineyard Avoyelles, Oakville
2018 A. Price Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Saint Helena
The release will open via email offer next Tuesday, September 29th.
I will be a buyer. I really enjoy these wines, as I’ve had several from the 2016 vintage (they didn’t last long). The A. Price cabernet for me is the standout, although the Oakville Ranch is tasty as well.
On Cellartracker, the Patria “Producer” page shows many Sicilian wines to go along with the Napa and Sonoma wines. There’s also a Chilean Cabernet. The Patria website does not mention any of these - is this an error in CT?
