Pinot Hunter: Copain Wentzel as Sleeper

$29

Confirmed with COLA.

$65—not!!

You’re welcome.

interesting… not sure this means anything or not, but the back label says “cellared and bottles by Copain”, while Copain’s own labels say “Produced” and bottled by…

so does this mean these are copain wentzel shiners, or some other excess wentzel barrels that didn’t go into the final blend?

In any event, very tempted…

I haven’t seen the back label but I had the same general thought. But the alcohol stated by LastBottle is the same (12.7%) as on the Copain website, which leads me to believe it’s the same wine. That’s what led me to take a flyer on a few. But, others would know much more about this than I would.

Thanks Mike P! In your honor I will drink one straight off the truck.

Where’s Frank Murray when you need him? Can’t help but think he might know the story behind this one. . .

Mike D could have something to say. He seemed to love it at $65

In for 4 bottles which qualified for free ground shipping. We enjoyed Copain’s 2009 Wentzel so this was a no brainer!

Thanks Mike. I don’t care what some people say about you, you’re okay in my book. [cheers.gif]

After reading some of the reviews on earlier vintages of the Copain, it seems like this one would be better served by having couple more years in the bottle.
What do you all think? Is this one to let age a couple more years?
Thanks

Age never hurt a Pinot.

I had them up this from 4 to 6 bottles.

It’s gotta be this wine book I am reading along the Russian River.
LOL

Sure buying a lot of Pinot Noir lately.

Found a cool map of this vineyard.

I totally missed this offer as I was off the grid on vacation. I bought some Sleeper SB a few years ago and it was an excellent wine.

Got my 4 yesterday at 2:30. Opened one at 5. Corked for ever.

Mike

So how was it?

Karl

Lol. Corked
I did not have the heart to pop another just then.

I thought you were kidding.

LOL

Oh my.
Maybe I should have stayed with 4.

Yikes!

Karl, I am very rarely dissapointed with Lastbottlewines selections that I have done the research with and probably never with those behind the brand to makes wrongs right. Other than messing up the perfect textbook pobega, all seems well in the universe.

They’re a great group.
I buy more wine from them than anywhere else.
Sorry to hear about the corked bottle.
Please post your thoughts when you have tried it.
Mine probably won’t arrive for another week.
I had the 3rd of 4 Saddleback Cellars Cabernet and this one was so aromatic I couldn’t wait to get into it.

Thanks Mike

You’re probably more familiar with the textbook than most, but it’s hard to comprehend why…in the spirit of over-exuberant wine enjoyment…you didn’t tear in to a 2nd bottle immediately (or even a 3rd if required!). How can you deny the delivery excitement responsible for the act itself?

RT

Lol. Let’s chalk it up to Monday, plus I had a half bottle of Cameron Hughes 599 from the night before.

I just opened one of these and it is absolutely singing. I’m usually underwhelmed by pinot, but with this one, while it’s definitely American, and it needs some time to balance out, it tastes like something that would typically cost two to three times what I paid. Vanilla, coffee and bright fruit, but well structured too.

Mike - I hope that the rest of your bottles turn out like the one I just opened, and thanks for the heads up. Wish I’d bought more than the minimum.
