Shipping wine to HongKong?

Does anyone know if it is legal to ship wine from WA state to HK?
Could i just pack a mix case and ship it to a friend there, or would I require a license?

If not personally legal, any way for my friend to buy from a wine shop in the US and ship there?

Thanks!

Need a license, and there may be duty to pay, though I think HK may have eliminated the duty fees on wine. DHL ships internationally, so if you have a shop with a license, that should work. I would think the easiest way would be to work with Vinfolio, as they have a HK branch, or maybe Acker could help.

I believe you are only allowed to ship Lafite.

ok now seriously… Thanks M Kelly, any other suggestions for my friend?

Double box it, and say it’s something else…A local shop would be my first angle, followed by Vinfolio, then go “rogue.”

I have shipped wine to HK before. I just double boxed it to survive the journey in tact.

I used US Postal Priority International at the request of the person I was sending it to. Cost like $55 dollars and they got it in 2 days although USPS said guarantee of 6-8 days.

I would like to make a comment regarding the duty on wines in HK.

There is no longer any duty on wines in HK. I blieve it was elimined on or around 28 Feb 2008 ( or maybe 2009 ).

Does anyone know the duty for Thailand?

One more thing. I did not declare it as wine. You legally can’t ship wine unless you have a license or use a shipper that has a license. I think USPS will not ship wine regardless but they are by far the least expensive way to ship some bottles to HK. YMMV
