SOLD OUT: *Newbie* Battuello Vineyards - Napa Valley since1909, ALL Estate-Grown

4th Generation-Small Production- Family Vineyard

Farming the Napa Valley since 1909, Battuello Vineyards stands at the intersection of history and wine. Our winemaking journey spans the periods before, during, and after Prohibition, showcasing our enduring commitment to the craft.**

Who We Are:

Greetings Berserkers, Torey Battuello from Battuello Vineyards here, expressing my enthusiasm for joining BerserkerDay 15 as a Newbie. Allow me to provide you with an insight into our haven before delving into the exciting offers.

In 1909, Matteo and Serfina Battuello embarked on a bold journey from Northern Italy to Ellis Island, eventually establishing themselves in the picturesque St. Helena, California. This transformative journey marked the inception of Battuello Vineyards. Despite the challenges posed by Prohibition, Matteo persisted with pride in his vineyard and wines, with government approval. Over the years, Matteo transitioned into a full-time grower, supplying fruit to esteemed producers such as Charles Krug, Mondavi, Clos Du Val, and Stags Leap Wine Cellars, among others—perhaps unknowingly, you’ve likely enjoyed our grapes already!

Fast forward, where 4th-generation Dave Battuello, supported by the seasoned winemaker Michael Trujillo with roots tracing back to Spain, upholds the winemaking legacy. I contribute to running the operations, alongside our two young farmers, Case (9 years old) and Alessa (7 years old), as our family continues to nurture the thriving 82-acre estate.

Battuello’s distinctive label, featuring a vine with roots intricately spelling out “1909,” pays homage to our founding year, encapsulating our commitment to handcrafted wines from estate-grown grapes. Under Dave’s meticulous care, each grape in those bottles achieves the pinnacle of quality, symbolizing our unwavering dedication to crafting wines that embody excellence and authenticity. This serves as a tribute to the exceptional legacy of the Battuello family, eloquently illustrated through our rootsy logo.

On our estate, we are hands-on with various grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, and the historically rich ValdiguiĂ©, once known as “Napa Gamay,” originating from southern France. Our vineyards epitomize quality and a profound passion for crafting wines that genuinely stand out.

As a certified micro winery, we currently produce about 1200 cases a year, and we proudly continue to sell most of our fruit to high-end wineries in the valley.

So, let’s get to the offers. We really want to share our wines with a like-minded community. To that end, all of our offers are with great discounts!

**2022 Estate Valdiguié Rosé - **

The 2022 estate-grown Valdiguié Rosé boasts a perfect peachy hue and offers aromas of melon with subtle citrus notes. Its bright palate features fresh acidity, leading to an elegant finish. Stainless Steel 12.6% abv, 82 cases.

2022 Estate Sauvignon Blanc-

White wine grapes had not been cultivated on the estate since the 1980s. However, upon my insistence to introduce a white wine to our production, we acquiesced and patiently waited for over three years for the vines to mature. Our inaugural white vintage emerged in 2021. The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc presents invigorating citric notes and delicate hints of orange blossom in its aromatic bouquet. The palate showcases a harmonious balance, featuring melon, pink grapefruit, and citrus flavors that culminate in a symphony of generous taste. Boldly presenting a forward character, the wine carries enriching weight and lingering textural depth from the very first sip. Stainless Steel, 13.1% abv, 81 cases.

**2018 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon **

Our 2018 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is carefully sourced from our rockiest soils, this wine harmonizes seamlessly with the distinctive terroir. The climatic conditions in 2018 were optimal, yielding an exceptional abundance of top-quality grapes – a truly rare and gratifying achievement. This vintage is marked by a density of flavors, including notes of blueberry, black cherry, and tobacco. 22 months in barrel, 80% new French Oak, 14.6% abv, 165 cases.

2019 Estate STALLA Cabernet Sauvignon

Meet “Stalla” –The name’s Italian for, you guessed it, “horse barn.” Our historic barn has been hanging out on the property since the 1840s. On the nose, you’ll get notes of raspberries. Similar red fruits are on the palate, and the mouthfeel culminates in a nicely balanced acidity with an uplifting and lingering finish. 22 months in barrel, 65% new French Oak, 14.6% abv, 160 cases.

2021 Petit Verdot

Our Estate 100% Petit Verdot showcases a meticulous craftsmanship that results in a wine of notable characteristics. With its deep and dense dark fruit notes, this varietal is marked by a smooth texture, providing a refined tasting experience. Notably balanced, the 2021 Estate Petit Verdot offers a precise interplay of flavors that contribute to its overall complexity. This wine is a testament to our commitment to excellence in winemaking, presenting a clinically crafted expression of the Petit Verdot grape from our estate vineyards. 14 months in barrel, 50% new French Oak, 14.4% abv, 62 cases.

2019 Valdiguié

ValdiguiĂ©, formerly recognized as “Napa Gamay” and still affectionately referred to as such on our ranch, is, in fact, a southern French varietal. Our cultivation of this distinctive grape traces back to the 1930s. Originally supplied to renowned wineries such as Krug, we have since made a strategic decision to exclusively utilize our ValdiguiĂ© grapes for in-house wine production, dedicating meticulous attention to crafting both red and rosĂ© varieties. 14 months in barrel, 50% new French Oak, 14.6% abv, 145 cases.

I had the privilege of being able to taste a great lineup from Battuello Vineyards.
Thanks first to Torey Battuello, who was super helpful and responsive, and got the wines to me quickly and without any issues.
The Batuello family has a fairly epic history in the Napa Valley, having farmed their vineyards in the St. Helena area since the early 20th century. They survived prohibition, and have been going strong since. Currently, the majority of their grapes are sold to Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, who makes several Battuello vineyard-designated wines. The family started making wines under their own label in 2016.
We held an impromptu dinner party with enophile neighbors to try these delightful wines.

2022 Battuello VIneyards Sauvignon Blanc
This estate-grown Sauvignon Blanc has good acidity and notes of citrus pith, pear, mown grass, and green apple. The overall impression is crisp, moderately fruity, and refreshing. The acidity holds everything up nicely. This has Spring and Summer written all over it.

2022 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié Rose
Estate-grown. Enchanting color. Mineral, white peach, Spring strawberry are prominent. We really loved it with salmon sashimi. Another winner for the warmer weather, or with lighter fare now.

2018 Battuello Vineyards Valdiguié
Loads of black cherry on the nose. Moderate dusty tannins. Nice body, described as “leggy” by some. Cherry confit, loganberry, all the berries. The family has grown this uncommon variety for a long time, and this wine offers lots of character and personality. Some “geek factor” for those looking for something different. Very enjoyable.
Scored 9 by Alder Yarrow, with which I concur.

2018 Battuello Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Right off the bat, this hits as varietally correct. Nice minty cocoa notes.
A full-fruit style, but balanced and quite savory. Medium+ tannins. Structured, with up-front fruit, chocolate notes, and minimal oak. We really enjoyed it now, but I think it will hold for 5+ years easily. Everyone was impressed by this one.

Tagging this one as it’s on my list for tomorrow
need more cabs for ‘the boss’!

Just ordered a three-pack of the Stalla, as I often like cabs with a red fruit profile. Do the grapes for that wine also come from the estate? If so, can I ask where? I was just checking out the vineyard blocks page on your website and it looks like you’ve got some diverse cab blocks to choose from.

Anyway, can’t wait to try your wines.

Wow. One post in and I have to be a pain in the ass right off the bat. Sorry. The more I read about the Valdiguie, the more I’m regretting not also getting some of that. What’s the best way to add that to my order without paying shipping twice? Is that something you can do, or should I place a second order and you can refund the second shipping charge?

@Andrew_Demaree Absolutely. I can refund the shipping from the second order!

Awesome. I’ll place it now. Thanks!

@Andrew_Demaree All our wines are estate. We don’t source fruit from anyone as we want to ensure that all our grapes are farmed by the family. If you are on the map on the website the Stalla comes from a blend of block 7b & 13. Block 13 is characterized by gravelly soil, while Block 7b features deeper soil. The blend of these two terroirs creates a soft, elegant Cabernet.
