Since we knew today was going to be a pretty warm day we decided to get an earlier start in the vineyard. When traveling on the outside of our last barbera row we saw a ball of black and white something tumbling around. As we got closer I could see a mama skunk and 4-5 little skunks. Mama pushed a mild plume of stink scent which was not so much to ward us off as it was to train the little ones that danger was near and you need to follow mama hustling into the brush for protection. Instead of high tailing it the little ones kept on wrestling and even a few started to come towards us so I put my truck into reverse so that we would not complicate things. It was a fun start to the morning. The picture below demonstrates how difficult it was for me to count 4 or 5 little ones.
