TN: 1982 Kopke - Colheita (Portugal, Douro, Porto)

1982 Kopke Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto (12/18/2021)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over a couple days –
– bottled in 2011 –

NOSE: epoxy; woodsy, like a Highland whisky; high-toned; obvious and typical tawny port aromas.

BODY: slightly burnt caramel color; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: dry; nutty; whisky-like; 20% alc. very noticeable; toasted pecans; medium+ acidity. Very good, and possibly low-level excellent. Should have drank it much closer to its purchase date of 10 years ago.

There’s some around more recently bottled. Great stuff.

I had a 1965 a couple years ago that was delish

I’m a big fan of these Kopke Colheitas.

Kopke tawnys generally don’t age so well long term. They make some amazing wood aged ports but he’s to consume closer to bottling date than later. Recent bottlings of this are quite nice, but it hasn’t been at the top of their ‘80s decade like some others, IMO.
