TN: 1983 William Hill Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (USA, California, Napa Valley)

Kinda over the Hill, but still in there, fighting. There’s a very pronounced unripe cherry sourness and acid there, but without any off the tannins or fruit left, it’s a bit one-note. Drinks like one of those cooperative French village swill wines, if I’m being totally honest. Not at all unpleasant. On a warmer day, this slightly chilled, wouldn’t be a bad time spent. (86 pts.)

I remember that wine.

It had a bit of a heyday back then.

Wasn’t the vineyard attached or nearly attached to Meadowood resort?

I see you’re opening up those old California cabs!

How much sediment was in the bottle? I’ll probably pop my William Hill’s in a few months but save the Heitz for my b-day

It was pretty cloudy after I had to sieve it into decanter after cork crumbled, so I’d say it’s got a good amount of sediment.

Bummer! I’ve had the 78 and 80 Mt. Veeder bottlings within the last year or so and they were both great. Although I guess that’s not surprising that the Mt. Veeder would be longer lived than the Napa. Still have one 1980 left but im in no rush to drink it.
