TN: 1988 Ravenswood Zinfandel Cooke (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley)

1988 Ravenswood Zinfandel Cooke - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (10/13/2024)
From Joel's cellar...decanted for the sed and left in bottle for a couple hours. GORGEOUS red fruited...REALLY red fruited! Tart cherries and raspberry jam...box of No2's, leather...very high toned with sour skin acidity...engaging dusty cedar/white pepper spice, cherry liqueur...showing Claret regalness...yet finger lickin good with the paired baby backs...fruit is a little drying and dusty for the old fella...but SUCH wonderful pleasure drinking this ZIN beauty! Everyone loved it! I just LOVE drinking these type wines...an iconic producer, single vineyard, winemaker's cellar provenance...doesn't get any better! (94 points)

Excellent. I managed to assemble a six vintage “vertical” of Cooke through the various library sales. Mostly stuff from the 1990s along with a 2004. Now to figure out how/when to open them.

Picked October 8th and labeled 13.1 ABV, must be a cold site or a cold year!

Nice note, we opened one of these for my Old Vines offline and it was as you stated, very red fruited , ample acidity, showing great for its age.
