TN: 2001 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot Vintner's Select Cuvée Mountain Top Vineyard

2001 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot Vintner’s Select Cuvée Mountain Top Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County (12/5/2011)
Open for 2 hours, but not decanted. Warm comforting nose of chocolate-covered cordial cherries, bark mulch, and spices. Velvety, but still tannic in the mouth. May be better with another 5-10 years, but it is very appealing tonight with beef. Rich and liqueurous. Long, black cherry finish. (93 pts.)

Did you drink it alone?

No. I brought it to my AA meeting.

What did you charge for a taste?

I really enjoy Pride but over time have found all variants of the Merlot to be just too sweet for me. Like really sweet.

Warm, comforting and licqeurous sound troublesome. Did you black out?

All kidding aside, the last time I popped one of these (5+ years ago) it was so intense I could not drink it. Sounds like it has mellowed some. I am willing to be really patient and give it the time it needs.

Sweet? As in R.S. sweet? In a Cali Red? No Way. [stirthepothal.gif]

Me, too. A reason why I no longer chase Pride merlot…good as it is.
