2003 Marquis Philips Shiraz 9 - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (7/16/2009)
As several others have said: big fruit, lots of flavor. We did give this some air and served it slightly chilled. The alcohol was not intrusive, nor was the oak. Most of the drinkers really liked this wine.

Good to hear. The 2002 I had last year was pretty bad.
Thanks Bonnie and Dan. I was putting some wine away today and saw I still had a bottle or two of the 01 and 02. I always thought this was a nice wine, for its style. Much better than the Integrity (I still have one 01 left) and was wondering about it. I don’t drink much Shiraz, hence why I forgot about it, but once in a while, its nice to be hit over the head with fruit (if the oak is not too intense). No hurry at this point I guess.

I never liked the Integrity (I think I have one btl though) but I did enjoy the #9 in its youth. When I started ITB in late 2000, I knew nothing about wine. I got to taste through a lot of wine right away, and many Aussies appealed to me, so I bought some 1998-2002s. Some I have kept around to see how they would age. The 2002 #9 was very disappointing, but not really surprising. This wines need to be enjoyed young, if you dig 'em. No need to age, they clearly do not get better.
I have one bottle of the 01 and two of the 02 in the cellar. I was thinking they should rest for awhile longer but…?
