2005 Waypoint Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard- USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (8/19/2012)
After one disappointing bottle, this comes back with a vengeance. Still dark and youthful looking. Nose of pure creamy cassis with some blackberries. Palate shows the finely delineated cool-creamy textured profile that I have expected from the best Dr Crane wines; black infused currants with a tinge of cola, violets and framboise. This has a super deft palate that says class and elegance are in control. Long and pure with some pretty notes of asian teas, cedar-box and cardamom. This medium weight wine has a line of creaminess running right through it and reminds me of why I love Dr Crane Cabs; so distinctive and speaks of place like not many others can, this is the real deal. Hey Mike- it’s been 3-4 years since I had this wine, but I seem to remember a wine similar to what you describe. Any idea what the story is with this producer? Is waypoint just available at bounty hunter in napa?
Hi Joe,
I am trying to remember the story here. This is actually a Thomas Brown made wine (that is what I have found out days after this tasting), and yes, it is a Bounty Hunter label. I remember the 2003s going for something like $30 and passed on it due to vintage (which I have since realized was a mistake). When we had this as part of the CLONYC Dr Crane dinner, it and another Bounty Hunter wine were shown to be stars on the night. here are the notes and check out the last 3 wines…
Anyway, this dinner and some well received info made me seek some out. I have traded one with Eric M. and I am glad to have one more.
BTW, that was my first Myriad, but certainly not my last…
