2007 Cappellano Barolo Piè Franco Otin Fiorin (Gabutti) - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (6/3/2013)
Tried just to see the show before it shuts down.
Deep and brooding but hugely perfumed with a deeper pitched Serralunga fruit profile. This has a beautiful mix of fruit, savory, and loads of perfume. Dark fruits, menthol, tons of roses, and a mouth filling presence with huge complexity and sneaky depth, but it is the elegance and poise that is the show here. This wine has a great contrast in that it is so deep that you would assume it is larger framed, but it is very elegant and medium framed, and is almost weightless on its feet. The fascination here is the evident huge power that hits you like a feather. This is the iron fist in a velvet glove Nebbiolo style. Very structured and impeccably balanced. This is all I could ever ask for in young Nebbiolo. An absolute baby, but approachable and incredibly enjoyable in its youth. Fantastic and I will eagerly anticipate the next 30 years of this wine (after a long sleep for the rest of the bottles) . Wow.
