TN: 2010 McCarthy Family Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate

  • 2010 McCarthy Family Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (10/20/2017)
Dark, dark ruby Color. Leather, Barnyard, Black fruit. It smells reminiscent of a 20+ year old bordeaux. Dark fruit, earthy funk, tanins and acid all dance around the palate. Med Body, with great balancing acid that to me really distinguishes this as Santa Cruz Mountains style Cabernet Sauv. This wine is made from estate grown grapes grown above Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos. Jefferey Patterson of Mt Eden is the wine maker. I tasted this originally semi blind at a community tasting. I knew it was Cab Sauv but did not know the vineyard or the producer or that patterson was the winemaker. I was very interested in the flavor and then learned the details. Picked up a few bottles to take home. 2nd tasting lived up to the hype of the first tasting. The 2010 has got some funk in good way. The 2012 is a cleaner in that regard and with more tannins. It’s still quite tight. The 2010 is drinking good right now. The '12 needs 4-6+ years. I’m gonna pick up a few more… (93 pts.)
