TN: 2013 Alain Verset Cornas (France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas)

I enjoyed a few bottles of the '14 Cornas by Alain Verset over the course of the last 12 months or so, and grabbed these in auction, hoping for more of the same, or better, in a slightly higher-regarded vintage of 2013. This wine appears to have more structure than the 2014 - grippier, stronger tannins, more rustic profile overall, with a nod perhaps to Gonon St Joseph, even. Clearly not from an overly ripe year, the fruit is sweet and pure and it has a brightness from the acids as well.

I continue to enjoy this producer’s Cornas, and will continue to seek it out, even if I can’t convince @Robert.A.Jr to get some - as much as I enjoyed the 2014s this is even more expressive and enjoyable

I turned into a snob after @CFu turned me onto the real thing!

Oh bs - when is the last time you had a Noel Verset, and how many do you have in your cellar?

Haha. Just a few. And zero!

I like Alain Verset, it’s just not carried by most of the retailers that I use.

Thanks for checking in on it. Bought a few 2013’s on auction, maybe i should open one soon :slightly_smiling_face:

It got better throughout the hours being open - if you have a few, I wouldn’t hesitate to open one now

The wines of his daughter Emmanuelle Verset, who succeeded Alain, are also worth trying. I’m just enjoying the 2016, her first vintage. Looking forward to the following vintages in my cellar.

Have definitely enjoyed the Alain and A+E Verset wines I’ve had. Worth seeking out at their current price point

I looked these up and saw the newer ones are A+E Verset. Same bottling, updated name/label?
