2013 Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (1/7/2024)
Decanted 2 hrs. A strong showing on this one. Initially this comes across a tad clenched, but soon a playful sweetness on the peripheral of the mouth that makes this quite engaging and worth pulling the cork. Aromatically, its very much on point with the full regalia of roses, soy, and some cooling mint perhaps and loads of sensual perfume. Great staying power on the finish. Very bright days ahead, no question. (94 points)

We DI Grasso into WA, so I have quite the collection of Grasso back to 2003 and have drank them back to 1997. My favorite Barolo producer, and I adore the Gavarini Nebbiolo and Dei Grassi Dolcetto.

Thanks for the note. Wish I had more of these.
How are older vintages drinking of E Grasso barolo? I have some 04, 06, 07 and 08, but I always assume they need more time.

I know you had posted very highly of this exact wine Kris some time back - I need to try that Dolcetto. BTW - Also a shout out for keeping prices in check despite getting high marks from all the major critics. I think you can get the 19 Casa for around $85-90 which should be a great use of one’s wine dollar.
Last 06s I had were delicious. 08 was still a bit surly when I tried Casa Mate, Gavarini Chiniera it’s been a while.
This would have been around 2021.

I have been a fan a long time, even before Galloni started giving them high scores.
Don’t underestimate the Nebbiolo, it’s young vine Gavarini Chiniera that is stainless steel aged, so you really get pure Nebbiolo, that will be Barolo when vine age gets up there.

I too am a E. Grasso fan. The last few years I’ve been drinking their 2001/5/7 Barolos but have only thought about popping 6/8/10 and later. My guess is that these should be starting to open up, but I will drink my other bottles from the 20xx’s first. Probably.
