After it’s been open awhile - the salinity is insane. Don’t think I’ve ever had a more saline wine. Very delicious.

Not so bad for a secondary tier vineyard site, right?

Leitz has a fantastic stable of prime Rheingau vineyards, but also does great justice to sites that are not historically renowned.

Haven’t been able to able to find Leitz in awhile. Used to get at K&L in Redwood City but not for a few years.

Same. They kind of disappeared after they left the Theise/Skurnik portfolio.

They had some importer issues. Now brought in by Schatzi. You can get them again although I personally am disappointed that they can no longer make fruity Spatlese really from their best sites historically - Schlossberg and Roseneck.

Yes, Schatzi is importer. I got it through my distributor, Martine’s, who distributes it but they’re only in CA, NY and IL. Not sure who distributes it in other states.

Johannes left Theise/Skurnik, and went directly to Schatzi and Kevin Pike. Johannes and Kevin are close friends. The issues were largely about starting up a new import business/portfolio.

I share your pain about the loss of the Roseneck Spätlese, which was a great wine, and sadly my wife’s favorite Riesling. Still have a stash, but not a lot.

Probably climate change plays a role here. Drachenstein is cooler and the renowned sites on the lower part of the Rüdesheimer Berg are ht and very dry. Weinlagen

Perhaps. I know (first hand) that the 2014 Roseneck Spatlese was a little weird. From what I heard he made a 2015, but nothing after that. The 2013 is delicious.
