TN: 2022 Domaine Guiberteau - Saumur Rosé (France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur)

2022 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rosé - France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur (6/18/2024)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind in restaurant setting over 1.5 – 2 hrs. –

Light aromatics, with florals (rose) dominating. Light to medium-light bodied on the palate, with good acidity, and the 12.5% alc. not noticeable. Medium-light red berries flavor, with a touch of mineral. Best rosé I’ve had in awhile. A definite rebuy for me.

Is this pinot based?

Given the appellation, I would imagine Cabernet Franc.

Also, Guiberteau website says they only grow Chenin and Cabernet Franc.

Was wondering as the cotat rose is PN. Would love to try that guiberteau rose as don’t think I’ver ever had a CF rose. Can’t see any uk listings for it though.

It’s Cab. Franc

The Loire is a long river! Depending on the location/producer, you can also find Loire rosé from Cabernet sauvignon, Pineau d’aunis, Gamay, Grolleau and Côt.

I’m not a huge rosé drinker from any region, but my best memory of Loire CF rosé was a bunch of bottles of early 1990s CF rosé from Claude Papin of Pierre-Bise in 2005. I drank several with him at the estate, so they had that whole never-moved thing going on, which surely helped preserve freshness. Plus, obviously you can get deeper fruit with Anjou CF. But, there was plenty of silky evolution, great harmony. I was living in London at the time and took some bottles back there to enjoy, which was all good.

But, while others may enjoy aging their rosés for 10+ years, I haven’t done that since!
