TNs: '20 Berthaut-Gerbet Vosne Romane, '22 Guffens Heynen Permier Jus

Two good to very good young wines from producers with which I am increasingly enamored. As always, your money back if my notes are not to your liking.

  • 2020 Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Vosne-Romanée - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée (3/29/2025)
Immediate appeal. Clean, fine red-fruit. Vibrant. Sappy. Slight vosne spice. Very tangy acidity. Layered finish. Long. Finessed and easy to drink. Good villages
  • 2022 Guffens-Heynen Saint Véran Premier Jus - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Saint Véran (3/28/2025)
Slightly reduction, some of the GH touch. Rich stone fruits, honey and and tropical notes. Super compact and so much power in reserve. Low ph- high-toned acid that cleanses everything it encounters. Just a baby; it has layers on layers and a salty-umami-saline finish. Terrific.

Thank you for the notes! I didn’t open any 2020 red recently, the ones I’ve had last spring were all quite massive and decided not to touch any bottle anymore for a long time (and drink '19’s instead). Do you think this is giving already everything or better with more age? Berthaut-Gerbet is for me an under the radar producer, a friend opened 2017 Cazetiers 2 years ago and this was an eye opener and I’ve been buying ever since. Even the Fixin villages are really delicious!

Thanks. Agreed on the Fixin villages. Her '18 Arvelets back in Dec was a bit of a revelation for Fixin. I would say the '20 i opened is still definitely primary- fruit is vibrant, acidity is lively. Drink it now, it has a certain youthful charm, but it definitely has things in place to be different with age. Better- may be up to the operator’s discretion. But you’re prob ok either way, now and later!
