Vietnam - Hanoi 2024

Hi all

The threads on the board are rather old, so I thought i’d check in again.

Meeting a friend there for a weeks time. No plans besides going in the footsteps of Bourdain and educating myself in the cuisine. Any recommendations for what to do in Hanoi otherwise, or perhaps some good bars with a nice view, etc?

Thanks in advance

I was there a few weeks ago. Phở Khôi Hói was amazing!

Good bars with a nice view? Obvious answer is the Train Street. Make sure to check the schedule though.

Will check it out!
Train street I’m not so sure about — I get a panic attack just watching IG Reels of it…

Train Street is cool, and surprisingly organized, I’d say it’s a must.

The Pho restaurant I mentioned has a Bib Gourmand, and it’s a warm-beer-and-plastic-chairs-on-the-street kinda place. Delicious, and stupid cheap.

Everything I want right now!

Definitely hit the old quarter in the evening during the weekend. Also a must is the egg coffee. Get that in one of the second story coffee shops in the old quarter. Relax and watch the traffic.

Sounds lovely. Thanks. I’m booked in at a hotel next to the old quarter —

The Hilton? :face_in_clouds:

We were in Vietnam in June and even Hanoi was unbearably hot. We enjoyed Hanoi more than Ho Chi Mi City. No specific restaurant recommendations but just walk around the City and enjoy the sites and people. We stayed at the Apricot so we had an easy walk by the lake to the Old City.

We found doing a street food tour fun and really useful. We got plenty of tips that made it easier to find great places during the rest of our time in Hanoi. It is one fantastic city.
