It was a terrific event. No Berserker should miss a chance to attend.
FWIW one of the Donnhoff mags was a 2006 Dellchen Auslese that was delicious and fully mature. The other was a 2005 Dellchen Spatlese that I’ll say with some immodesty was amazing.
I agree. Rebecca came running into the kitchen early on and said “You have to taste this Donnhoff.” It was the Spat and it was outstanding. Floral, tropical fruit, white fruit, enough acidity without too much acidity. Ken can generally be counted upon to show up with a German magnum. It’s the shape, you know.
I did not have time for photos but they are coming in from other people in droves. When I get a chance I will post them. There are a few in assorted places on that Facebook thing.
Howard brought a gorgeous matching set of mags for us to try. This was first for me, smells heavenly, with apple cinnamon pie and some custard also showing through. This is so sweet in a tactile, crystal way. Purest apple with a kind of buttertart or apple turnover.
2005 Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Spatlese
As you’d expect, a little fresher, with lilac and more florals to match with the apple. This is swee-eet, pretty much an Auslese in sheep’s clothing in taste…but…it has a startling length and elegance paired with that taste sensation and, against all my prejudices, it wins me over, almost WOTD"
