Best wines since the beginning of 2019

‘62 Latour - tasted more like a wine from 80s than 60s, vibrant and good balance, will last for years. Some of these old Bordeaux seem ageless, almost indestructible.

Chateau Belgrave 1945 from half bottle(!) (vts fill). It was overwhelming.
Larios Benefique Malaga 1866 Solera (from what I understand it was only topped up twice).
Oh, and a Palmer 1970 from Magnum (in fill)!

Yesterday, in a memorable verticale 2013/204 :
Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 2011 : 18,5/20
The very beauty of the best traditional Barolos …

Minervois Clos Centeilles Capitelle de Centeilles 1997 : 18/20 - 12 april 2019
A great pure cinsault, complex, thin, very long …
Languedoc at its best …

So far this year:

2005 Kistler Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard
2007 Schrader Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard
2009 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red
2010 Blankiet Estate Proprietary Red Wine Paradise Hills Vineyard
2013 Saxum Broken Stones
2009 Blankiet Estate Rive Droite
2012 Aubert Chardonnay Eastside Vineyard

2016 SQN Syrah Ratsel
2000 La Mission
2010 Casa Nova di Neri Tenuta Nuova
1986 Ch Margaux
1953 Romanee St Vincent Grivelet
2001 Gaja, Costa Russi
1996 Montrose
2012 Kapcsandy Roberta’s Reserve

1990 DRC La Tache

In the US this vigneron is not widely known and pricing is very fair for the high quality.

Thank you, Jason

Patricia Boyer-Domergue was with us yesterday evening in Toulouse for a memorable verticale (2010/1995).

I was lucky enough to taste this great wine at the domain a few years ago. It followed a splendid La Tâche 1999.

2014 Le Pergole Torte was pretty good tonight. Could’ve been the third round of the Masters too.

Both amazing wines!

Hongrie : Tokaji Aszu – Arpad-Hegy Pince 6 Puttonyos 1999 : 18/20
Vin de base : 100 % Hárslevelu
Aszu botrytisé : 50 % Hárslevelu, 50 % Furmint
Elevage : 3,5 années en fût de chêne de 500L (fûts de 20 ans)
Sucre : 216 g/l
Acidité : 9,8 g/l

Tough to pick just 3 but have had some nice bottles so far this year:

2014 Beaucastel Blanc
1999 Giacomo Conterno Cascina Francia
1999 Voerzio Cerequio
2009 Galatrona Petrolo
2008 Brovia Villero
2012 Cappellano Rupestris
2012 Chapoutier St. Joseph Les Granits Blanc
1990 Parusso Mariondino
1996 Pio Cesare Ornato
1996 L Pira Marenca
1978 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo

It’s been a relatively slow 1st Qtr+ wine-wise in 2019 (as I’ve been exploring Irish whiskies); but, if I had to choose 5 (all my bottles, opened with meals):

Krug NV 163 Ed.
2002 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
2001 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle
1999 Pétrus
2012 Biondi Santi Rosato (been drinking a lot of this lately as it’s summer in my neck of the woods).

2000 Chateau Clos de Sarpe
1993 Pio Cesare Barbaresco Il Bricco
1999 Confuron-Cotetidot Gevrey Chambertin Lavaut St. Jacques
1998 Bouchard Volnay Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot
2000 Chateau Musar
N.V. Ulysse Collin Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Les Maillons
2012 Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir

Not exactly a list of 3 but these all rocked the house.

Cheers,
Doug

my best of the year so far is 1993 Felsina Vin Santo. just ridiculous. and the value…!

for lunch :
Rayas red 2005 : 20/20 : a genuine perfect grenache (who doubted ?).

1985 Valentini Trebbiano
2010 Roulot Meursault Perrieres
1990 Clape Cornas

2014 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard ‘Elysian’
2015 B Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard

Both pretty amazing. Elysian drinking great, the BC TK also great but should improve with some time.
