Latour 2016

Got the following email

2016 Château Latour, First Growth Pauillac – Ex-Château Release 2025

Estimated Release Price £3,000 - £3,300 c/s In Bond

I have had my eye on this for a while. But I haven’t really been buying any post 2005 Bordeaux recently. If af all I have been thinking of trimming recent vintages and buying more of the 80s.

Wondering who’s going for 2016?

I have no opinion/guidance towards 2016, but I just read this week about William Kelley sampling the 2002 recently and reviewing it as an exceptional wine. If you were interested in expanding Latour vintages post-1996, I’d probably look hard at the 2002, Dinesh. Unless you already have a case .

The price isn’t bad. I have not tasted the Latour, but I have had the Mouton 2016, and it may be one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted.

That being said, the market for young Bordeaux is not strong. I got an e mail this morning for a six pack of Haut Brion 2019 for $370 a bottle.

I’ll be grabbing a bottle. Trying to build a 2016 horizontal given the raves about the vintage.

(Great seeing you at La Paulee, Dinesh!)

I love this vintage of Bordeaux, has a freshness that is so welcoming after so many big, fat vintages. However, I am not buying, I have enough Bordeaux as is including lots of '16 that I bought EP. FYI, we had '05 Ausone, Latour and Lafite this week and all were over-done for my pallet.

Damn I would snag a 6 pack for that price

For 2005 I like VCC and Palmer.

Since I found that, it is in the UK, so with tariffs, may end up over $1000.

I would make sure the Latour is already in the US before putting down cash.

good. I double bought 05 VCC.

are you talking about the 16 ?

No, the Haut Brion 2019.

First price I’ve heard in the UK was 3060/6. Will update when I see official offers.

Strike that, first offer 1490/3

in GBP?

Yep

Most of the market is sat around £1550/3

Received an offer at 540€.

That’s a better price than UK based offers, suggesting UK retailers may have to discount as well.

I have been watching the HDH stock levels, they sold a little over two hundred bottles at $715 so far.

Is that about what you would expect? Seems reasonable for a $700 wine but I have no reference.

This might have been $1k if it was offered three years ago.
