WILLIAM KELLEY!

William is the primary reason why I decided to re-subscribe to WA. That fact that he is an active participant here, so knowledgeable but humble and respectful…

Ha! Post of the week, at least, if not longer. I hope to share a bottle with you someday, Robert.

Although I think Bond went to Cambridge, at least in the Fleming books.

I once saw William Kelley chug an entire bottle of 1988 Armand Rousseau Chambertin out of a quart glass, and then regurgitate into the mouths wine aficionados so it had the perfect amount of aeration. Like civet coffee, the best wine is only at its apex after passing through William Kelley!

You should all Know his real name is William D Hein Kelley

A really brilliant young man. We are lucky to be able to have access to him here also. Not many critics make such incredibly detailed posts here.

How different is this from Robert Parker when he started the Wine Advocate. Not much I bet.

His name is Kelley. William Kelley! He likes his Burgundy shaken, not stirred.

When is going to start posting about the Kelley Women???

Parker. Craig. R. Kelley. They got nothing on William. We may have to start calling him Bill.

He is reaching Chuck Norris levels.

Howard I imagine him saying " . . . neither shaken nor stirred" ?

Ha! Let’s pull some corks.

Cambridge is for chumps. I went there. Granted, it was a semester law program and all I did was travel, drink, punt, and, well, . . . .

Well said.
Cheers William

Totally agree with all the praise for the most exciting addition to wine reviewing since…can’t remember(!) - I suppose we have to be thankful for the demise of Mark Squires’ BB, because his contributions here are invaluable. I too took advantage of the TWA 3 month offer, but I will not be continuing. It’s not the quality of the other reviewers so much as the lack of coverage of the areas that I like - Bordeaux and the Loire. Compared to Neal Martin, LPB’s coverage of Bordeaux, irrespective of what one thinks of her palate, is insufficient. As for the Loire, it’s zilch. I did actually write to Stephan Reinhardt, the current “reviewer”, who hasn’t been near the Loire since 2014, to ask if there would be any future reports. I never got a reply. Sadly, some things at TWA never change.

This is excellent

I’ve made my opinion of LPB known before, but even if she were competent, I just don’t understand how they could pull Neal from the bdx beat. His hard-earned depth of knowledge there is exceptional. Given TWA’s heritage (and presumably readership base), you’d think they’d want to showcase their bdx and CA cab coverage.

Anyway, I had no idea William was a pup. All the more impressive

It was a mind-boggling decision.

As the risk of sounding like an ass, her Bordeaux notes are utterly worthless. Every other note has Black Forest Cake, and something soaring, rising like the Phoenix, out the glasses. They are caricatures that have become pure, and appropriate, fodder for John’s bingo thread. Give the region to William, his Bordeaux notes are fantastic. Everyone should read his wonderful exposition on BAMA. Now that is wine writing. Keith Levenberg writes at that level, it’s a gift that frankly, very few of us possess. And like real pornography, you know it when you see it.

I don’t know why you think LPB “pulled” NM from the coverage. I have always assumed he left voluntarily for greener pastures at Vinous. More money and being able to reduce his responsibilities to areas he was most interested in, plus random music coverage; in other words, something like the Wine Journal he created and Parker acquired before Parker upped his responsibilities at WA.

Well, I suspect you know more about this than I do. My dim recollection was that he was reassigned at TWA before he left for Vinous (and I assumed was part of the reason for the switch), but my memory sucks for things I have to remember, much less stuff like this.

That is quite the analogy, Robert A !

Mind in the gutter, baby!

You just have a wide repertoire !
